SUMMARY: The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff
Library (AUC Woodruff Library) is dedicated to supporting the
academic and scholarly missions of three distinguished institutions
that constitute the world’s largest consortium of Historically
Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)—Clark Atlanta University,
Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Strategically located to
serve these campuses, the AUC Woodruff Library is a central hub for
both intellectual and social engagement within the Atlanta
University Center community. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Research and
Reference Librarian provides library instruction and research
consultation to students, faculty, and staff across Morehouse
College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University. Individuals
with an interest in the fields of science, including biology,
chemistry, environmental sciences, physics, computer science, and
engineering, are encouraged to apply. Collaborating closely with
faculty, the librarian evaluates print and electronic resources to
determine what should be retained or replaced, ensuring that
current and relevant materials are available to support academic
programs. This role may participate in committees, task forces, and
library-wide initiatives. The position reports to the Team Lead for
Reference and Research Services. Working closely with assigned
departments and programs in a collaborative and team-based
environment, Research & Engagement Librarians provide individual
and small-group consultations, workshops, and instruction in
information and resource use. Librarians at the AUC Woodruff
Library are committed to supporting student learning and success.

succeed in college and career. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop instructional materials, research guides,
web tutorials, and digital learning assets. Design and deliver
research seminars, workshops, and training sessions individually
and in groups using emerging educational technologies. Provide
general and subject-specific reference services for on-site and
remote users, including participation in evening and weekend
rotations. Select and deselect science-related materials (print,
electronic, and multimedia) in alignment with AUC curricula and
academic priorities. Establish benchmarks and conduct regular
collection assessments with faculty to identify strengths and
address gaps. Serve as the primary liaison to science programs,
including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science,
Computer Science, and Dual Degree Engineering. Maintain office
hours across AUC campuses, participate in campus-wide initiatives,
and plan or host scholarly events. Contribute to developing,
implementing, and reviewing library services, policies, and
publications. Represent science disciplines on library committees,
task forces, and cross-functional projects. Engage in professional
development through participation in disciplinary and library
organizations, presenting at regional and national conferences, and
pursuing scholarly work. WORK/EDUCATION EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree
in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited
institution. 1–2 years of experience in library instruction using
emerging technologies or information literacy frameworks.
Experience providing reference and instructional services.
Proficiency with electronic resources common to science
disciplines. Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and
organizational skills. Ability to work both independently and
collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment. Knowledge,
Skills, & Abilities: Solid understanding of academic science
resources (databases, journals, e-books, datasets) Commitment to
diversity, equity, and inclusion Excellent oral and written
communication Sound analytical and organizational capabilities
Computer proficiency, including Mac systems and Microsoft Office
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform physical tasks associated
with the archival environment, including lifting and handling
