Our Parks & Recreation professionals enhance our quality of life. -Our engineers help keep our drinking water clean, the largest airport in the world (by passenger volume) operating and our buildings maintained. -Along with the host of Finance, Procurement, and Human Resources professionals whose support is vital, we are the City of Atlanta! - If you are seeking a meaningful role where you can make a real difference improving and growing our City, we welcome you to explore the job opportunities we have to offer.General Description and Classification StandardsThe Watershed Construction Maintenance Worker II -(Operations - OLIO) Stone and Brick Mason is a lead worker for semi-skilled. -Provides construction and/or maintenance work to support a variety of drinking water or distribution, system activities, and operates hand and power tools, light to medium construction equipment, etc. -This position is part of a larger crew working with skilled trade employees (experienced), equipment operators, technicians, and crew supervisors. May also work alone or act as a lead worker on a crew for construction or maintenance activities. May assist in training, orientation, or observing junior associates, apprentices, or semi-skilled employees.Supervision ReceivedWorks under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks; may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associate, apprentice, or semi-skilled employee in the group.Essential Duties & Responsibilities -These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be -construed as exclusive or all inclusive. - May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Completes assigned work orders correctly and on time.
  • Works with supervisor to prioritize work orders.
  • Works in a safe and organized manner to ensure safety for self, crew, and the public.
  • Works as part of and/or leads a crew
  • Read blueprints or drawings to calculate materials needed
  • Lay out patterns, forms, or foundations according to plans
  • Break or cut materials to required size
  • Mix mortar or grout and spread it onto a slab or foundation
  • Clean excess mortar with trowels and other hand tools
  • Construct masonry walls
  • Align structures, using levels and plumbs
  • Clean and polish surfaces with hand tools or power tools
  • Fill expansion joints with caulking materials
  • Lay out and install rain-screen water systems.
  • Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs, hand/eye coordination,
  • Must be able to communicate (hear, comprehend, and speak) to safely perform work,
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Checks utility truck to ensure proper equipment and tools are present and in working order.Decision MakingGenerally, operates under the specific direction of crew supervisors. - May assist in the task of guiding work of less experienced employees. Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions, and methods to accomplish assigned tasks. -Leadership ProvidedAbility to work productively on a team and provide guidance to lower-level team members as needed. -Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThis is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to -perform the job successfully. - It is not an exhaustive list.
    • General site safety of water operations and maintenance, methods, products, tools, and equipment used in water maintenance and construction work.
    • Operates a variety of light to heavy power equipment (vactor truck, backhoe, excavator) and maintenance of tools and equipment (pumping equipment, hydraulic excavator, concrete socket)
    • Understands and applies DWM policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with customers.
    • Maintains records, creates reports, and documents work status with photos and data.
    • Works after normal working hours, as required.
    • Resolves heavy equipment issues (sewer)
    • Communicates with customers to successfully address issue.
