The Emory Cardiothoracic Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship is a
one-year certificate-granting program with didactic and clinical
components that address the disease processes and treatment of the
cardiothoracic surgical patient. The live and web-based didactic
curriculum runs concurrently with the clinical curriculum.
Web-based learning activities are delivered via multiple online
learning management systems, and written examinations are
administered to assess comprehension and retention of knowledge
acquired throughout the didactic curriculum.
The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge in
both common and atypical cardiac surgical disease processes, as
well as build a strong foundation in the general medical
pathophysiology that is necessary for treating and managing
cardiothoracic patients pre-, intra-, and postoperatively. Clinical
and didactic training occurs concomitantly and will be located, in
part, at Emory Healthcare's three major hospitals and possibly at
Emory's affiliate sites.
Who is eligible?
Recent graduates who are able to meet the minimum requirements for
entry into the program as well as experienced acute care nurse
practitioners or physician assistants. Physician Assistant
fellowship applicants must meet the following criteria by the start
of the program:
- Successful completion of an accredited master's level or higher
PA program with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Three letters of recommendation, including at least one from an
PA program director or current employer.
- Accreditation by a nationally recognized body as a PA.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Georgia or eligible to become
- BLS/ACLS certification.
- Provide a one-page, typed statement of reasons for interest in

with the class starting July 2023.
