The Role and Opportunity View Item and Transaction Flows Engineering team owns item details experience, end to end responsibility for auctions & offers, and SEO optimized landing experiences. In other words, this team is responsible for the heart of eBay. We drive billions of dollars in revenue via 100's of millions of page views delivered daily across the globe, across all devices & browsers. Team and experience have great financial and customer impact and role has high visibility in the organization. In addition, being the core eBay experience, it has to delight the diverse customer base across the world. Our agile teams are based in San Jose, California. The team works on technologies such as Java, Node.js, web-services, browser-related technologies (jQuery, HTML5, etc.), iOS, Android and database solutions (NoSQL, Oracle, etc.). Like everything else at eBay, we build scalable and highly-available systems for the millions of users that depend on us to conduct their businesses. What are we looking for? We're looking for the highest levels of technical talent and programming skills, as well as a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Solid foundation in computer science with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software systems throughout all phases of the software development life cycle
  • Work on new and existing product initiatives and be a driver in the definition of product direction.
  • Partner effectively with product management, QE, partner teams.
  • Develop technical & domain expertise and apply to solving product challenges.
  • Work with PM and UED teams to create innovative product solutions to meet business objectives
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, QA and Operations teams to design and develop strategic and tactical solutions
  • Estimate engineering effort, plan implementations, and roll out applications with cross-functional impact
  • Implement working prototypes for testing new ideas
  • Participate and contribute to design and code reviews for producing quality code
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Mentor other engineers while raising the bar on the team's discipline and technical excellence
  • Having a good amount of experience with agile teams and methodologies is required. Education: Degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent professional experience.
    • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience
