Job Grade: 7

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Leads the career discovery and exploration experience for undergraduate students including one-on-one and group coaching, leadership of Career Peer program and general career exploration initiatives within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and office, division and college policies and procedures. Reports to the executive director and works with students, young alumnae, faculty and other community partners on and off campus.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Career Coaching

  1. Provides one-on-one and group coaching with a focus on career discovery and exploration to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as, young alums.

  2. Cultivates relationships and adjusts approach to meet the array of needs of our diverse student body.

  3. Facilitates student learning and growth via self-assessment and reflection, career research tools, career exploration options (internships, volunteering, etc. ) and development of professional tools (resume, LinkedIn) and career preparation (interview preparation, networking).

  4. Stays abreast of new approaches and trends in collaboration with other career coaches.

  5. Manages appointment schedule, enters notes and student engagement details in a timely manner into compass for tracking and use by other advisors.

Career Discovery and Exploration Programs and Resources

  1. Implements student use of tools for career exploration and exposure including Focus 2, Vault, and information interviews.

  2. Supports faculty integration of exposure/exploration assignments with canvas and career panels.

  3. Creates engaging content in relevant software (canvas, google slides, portal) as appropriate.

  4. Collaborates closely with student clubs and community partners to create, customize, and execute general career discovery and exploration experiences including support for SCALE preparation.

  5. Creates and oversees logistical components for career exploration/discovery experiences (career treks, career panels, etc.).

  6. Connects students to relevant alums and collaborates with career coaches to develop SUMMIT Career Connect.

  7. Cultivates relationships with alums as needed for building career exposure/exploration programs.

Career Peer Program Leadership

  1. Leads career peer program in close collaboration with CWS Coordinator to grow awareness and student engagement with career peers.

  2. Coordinates training of career peers training and leads bi-weekly meetings with support from career coaches.

  3. Mentors career peers with co-programming, regular feedback and general leadership.

  4. Manages resume review process in handshake and assigns resumes daily.

  5. Supports CWS Coordinator in career peer recruiting, specifically leads interview process for career peers.

General OICD Support

  1. Supports signature events as team member (e.g., career fairs, bootcamps, receptions).

  2. Works collaboratively with assistant director, communications to write engaging, accurate and timely information for newsletters/flyers/social media.

  3. Serves on relevant cross-functional teams and/or as liaison to offices/departments to promote the vision and direction of post-graduate success.

  4. After first year, workload will be assessed and employer liaison responsibilities may be added to enrich personal development of career coach.

  5. Works occasional nights and weekends, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree. Masters preferred.

Experience: 2-4 years relevant experience in education, career services, or recruiting. Student development or coaching experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of college student development and career/professional development and coaching especially as it relates to exploration and discovery
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with demonstrated relationship building and ability to build trust and interact in a positive, helpful manner.
  • Highly organized with an ability to multitask and prioritize. Ability to work efficiently and assess/shift priorities as needed or directed, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write and verbally convey in a clear, accurate and concise manner customizing messages to different populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment to meet established goals.
  • Experience with and basic knowledge of google-suite and Microsoft software. Ability to adapt to new technologies/modes of communication, scheduling, and record-keeping. Experience with LMS (e.g., canvas), smartsheet, LinkedIn preferred.
  • Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism in all spaces.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, walking and moving of light objects. Frequent local/regional travel and occasional national travel is required. Must have a valid driver's license.
