Senior Consultants in this role will initially support a cosourcing arrangement, training and leading junior staff who also support this work. This role will transition over time to work as a leader or more senior member of several project teams supporting clients on a wide variety of engagements covering topics such as financial modeling, financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues, litigation, pricing, and product development. The Role

  • Initially support a cosourcing arrangement for reinsured blocks of business
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Train junior staff to support the cosourcing arrangement
  • Transition to support consulting engagements
  • Work independently on assignments for more senior associates to meet client engagement objectives, effectively delegating to more junior colleagues where appropriate
  • Perform analysis, develop tools, and prepare high quality work product to support recommendations to project managers
  • Work collaboratively with others on a project team
  • Play a lead role in preparing for meetings and interactions with clients, manage expectations of the project manager
  • Prepare initial drafts of client correspondence and in some cases communicate directly with the client
  • Make continuous progress on the SOA exam curriculum toward an FSA designation, utilizing a competitive student program or complete CE requirements to maintain SOA credentials depending on exam status

The Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in an actuarial role at a life insurance company, consulting firm, or financial services organization
  • Reinsurance expertise is a plus
  • Strong technical skills, preferably in at least one of: Microsoft Excel with VBA, SQL, or R
  • Actuarial software expertise (GGY AXIS, Risk Agility, MG-ALFA, Moses, TAS, Prophet, and/or Polysystems) required. Strong expertise a plus.
  • Expertise in at least one specific life insurance and/or annuity product line
  • Expertise in at least one of the following functional areas as applied to the life insurance industry: predictive analytics / data science, experience studies, financial reporting, financial modeling, mergers & acquisitions, and product development / pricing.
  • Motivated, independent learner willing to share their knowledge with others
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a local team and within teams across multiple offices
  • Ability to delve into technical issues and problem solve with minimal instruction or supervision
  • Ability to effectively assist and delegate to junior colleagues
  • Seek the big picture, understanding why an assignment needs to be performed and how it fits in to the final objective
  • Good time management skills and ability to balance multiple projects with multiple project managers, including timely communication of priorities and conflicts
  • Flexibility to put in extra effort to meet client deadlines when necessary
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to explain work product, findings, and recommendations to junior colleagues, peers, and clients
  • Successful track record in passing SOA exams
