The essential function of the Director of Maintenance (DOM) position is to ensure that all operations under the Maintenance Department's Part 145 Repair Station Certificate, Part 91 Aircraft Management program, and Part 135 Charter fleet are continuously conducted safely, in compliance with all FAA and other government regulations and reporting requirements, in conformance with operational specifications, and ultimately with the customer's experience and high degree of satisfaction in mind, while upholding the values of an outstanding family business environment.

Position Summary:

The Director of Maintenance serves in an essential management role responsible for oversight of the Maintenance Department. The DOM will have a broad knowledge and thorough understanding of the aviation industry as it relates to the successful management of a maintenance operation. The DOM will provide day-to-day leadership and motivation for the team to deliver excellent technical and operational support needed to achieve overall department goals. The DOM will be responsible for the economical and efficient accomplishment of all aircraft maintenance functions. Additionally, the DOM will support Hill Aircraft's exceptional customer service interest by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with clients utilizing the services offered within the department.

A&P Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Administration, Inspectors

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead the development, communication, and implementation of efficient operational procedures, policies, and effective growth strategies for the department

Ensure that the department is properly staffed, organized, trained, and directed to fulfill its responsibilities

Drive department to achieve sales, profitability, and business goals and objectives

Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement the department's annual business plan and budget based on goals and objectives for the company

Review actual performance of department and execute appropriate actions necessary to meet plans

Ensure that the department and personnel have the adequate resources needed to perform their job successfully and efficiently

Promote a healthy culture for the department and the team that benefits employee engagement, happiness, customer loyalty, safety, integrity, and overall excellence

Conduct performance evaluations for the department that gains feedback to and from the employees, as well as a plan for corrective actions needed to be successful in the role

Perform basic HR functions, with direction of senior management, for the department including input and review of position descriptions, writing and posting for open positions, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new employees, scheduling, counseling, and discharging of personnel

Establish and maintain a positive working relationship as liaison between company and the FAA with responsibility for the company's issued maintenance certificates and signing of correspondence

Responsible for all record keeping and auditability requirements, including maintenance and disposition of those records, and signing of Part D of the Operations Specifications

Oversee all inspections, repairs, and component changes and accompanying documentation are accomplished in accordance with the manufacturer or FAA approved procedures, conforming to quality control standards, on schedule, and in compliance with FAA regulations

Oversee and review work orders while jobs are in progress monitoring for proper sign offs, supervising and inspecting as required

Ensure that all maintenance technicians are certified and supervised according to requirements specified in FAA regulations

Ensure all maintenance technicians are trained and current on the types of aircraft for which approved

Maintain timely response and sufficient quantity of properly qualified maintenance technicians for the volume of work on the schedule throughout the day, as well as after hours, nights and weekends as required

Responsible for the aircraft, tooling, equipment, materials, inventory, and activities within the hangar and on the adjacent ramp

Make periodic inspections of the working area and take necessary steps to correct any discrepancies related to safety, cleanliness, organization, or general housekeeping practices

Proactively work with customers and team members to eliminate problems and solve situations before they have a chance to develop

Plan and prepare maintenance or repair estimates and determine the scope of work and personnel required

Make available in a timely manner to the maintenance team the necessary overhaul manuals, service bulletins, service letters, airworthiness directives, and other required technical data

Confer regularly with customers regarding estimates, scope of work, maintenance approvals, and progress updates, as well as release of aircraft and follow-up satisfaction surveys

Coordinate parts ordering requirements with Parts Department Manager, ensuring all bill of materials have been issued and all parts ordered for completion of the work required

Maintain all necessary records and logbooks, including certification in the aircraft permanent maintenance records that the aircraft is approved and returned to service

Act as primary point of contact with flight crews on maintenance discrepancies related to Part 91 and Part 135 fleet with understanding of MEL and write-up process for each aircraft

Coordinate with the Director of Operations on the timely communication and correction of mechanical repairs, as well as planned inspections or maintenance work on the Part 91 and Part 135 fleet around scheduled flights

Provide the Director of Operations with the current airworthiness status of aircraft under the Part 91 and Part 135 fleet, forecasting down times to facilitate maintenance scheduling at optimal times and ensure timely deferral or correction of aircraft discrepancies

Communicate with senior management, officers, and owners on matters related to business operations

Represent the department in the respective position while interfacing with maintenance customers, manufacturer representatives, and with vendor business partners serving department needs in order to cultivate the relationships

The Director of Maintenance may delegate some of these duties, but retains overall responsibility

General Qualifications | Knowledge & Experience:

Current FAA issued certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings and no violations

Ability to meet all FAA requirements and approval for the Director of Maintenance designation

10+ years within general aviation maintenance operations, including Part 135, and equivalent operational experience to include familiarity with aircraft maintenance scheduling, team management, and customer relations

5+ years in a Supervisor or Management role

Current Aircraft Inspector (IA) certificate preferred

Experience in Citation and King Air series aircraft, PT6 engines, and Cessna Service Center operations

Experience with aircraft management record keeping programs including CAMP/CESCOM and Flightdocs

Familiarity with requirements of 14 CFR Part 145, Part 135, Part 91, and Part 145 repair station

Extensive knowledge of current FAA regulations

Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience that substitutes for required education

General Qualifications | Skills & Competencies:

Understanding and management of business operations concepts including budgets, planning, sales projections, financial performance, and reporting

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings

Aptitude to work in a results oriented environment

Analytical ability to evaluate data and information to make operational decisions

Excellent project and time management capabilities

Desire to lead by example with drive to achieve goals and an eye for detail

Strong communication (written and oral) with effective interpersonal aptitude and ability to express ideas successfully

Interface and communicate well with customers, vendors, team members, flight crews, Chief Pilot, and Director of Operations

Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office products

People management, conflict resolution, and resource allocation

Ability to prepare and complete reports pertaining to department

Additional Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license and have acceptable driving record that meets company insurability requirements

This is an exempt position. This position may require working evenings and weekends, and on scheduled company holidays to accommodate the needs of the customers and department operations

Must be able to pass a background check and FAA DOT drug screen. Hill Aircraft is a Zero Tolerance Drug Free Employer, including pre-employment and random drug screening

Ability to travel for the position as needed
