CNN, Bleacher Report, HBO and more.Your New RoleWarner Media is
seeking a Video-focused Software Engineering Director to own
end-to-end software development for video orchestration and
metadata workflows integrated with our Warner Media brands and
external content partners. The Director will lead two engineering
teams within Platform Services. These teams own tech stacks for
video ingest, encoding, captioning, orchestration, and metadata
workflows for live streaming and video on demand.As a Director, you
will lead detailed technical design, workflow architecture, product
feature development, and rollouts for cloud-native applications
focused on digital video services. The ideal candidate must be a
technologist and engineer at heart with proven experience leading
technology strategy and implementation. As a technology leader, you
will champion end-to-end solution architectures to evolve our video
platform applications, backend systems for shared services, and
front-end UI tools with a focus on adaptability, reusability, and
operational simplicity. As a leader of teams, you will engage,
motivate, and coach talented technologists on best engineering
practices, project delivery needs, and continuous improvement.The
tech stack includes backend services and front-end UI tools built
using Go, Node.js, React on AWS infrastructure EC2, S3, SNS,
EventBridge, Lambda, Step Functions, and more.Your Role
Accountabilities
- Be the subject matter expert (SME) for video delivery workflows
across multiple Warner Media brands and multiple device
platforms.Provide hands-on technical leadership for requirements,
implementation, testing, and delivery.
- Maintain the technical roadmap for our video platform for live
and VOD event orchestration, CMS integrations, external system
integrations.
- Lead technical solution deep dives and create documentation for
cross-systems architecture, end-to-end video workflows,
dependencies, and software components.
- Incorporate video workflow optimizations and key updates per
industry trends and consumer experience innovations.
- Understand how our core brands use our video stack. Collaborate
with customer engagement teams and product managers to identify
opportunities and gaps.
- Work closely with engineers to define architecture and
implementation approach for new features, enhancements, and
operational improvements.
- Define testing practices for engineers (unit testing,
automation) and embedded QA engineers to validate functionality,
performance, and system interactions.
- Collaborate with our Platform Operations team to diagnose
critical production issues, identify root causes, and recomment
immediate and long-term fixes.
- Advise on financial optimizations and risks to optimize
technology needs that align with business and engineering
priorities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, teamwork and
open communication across teams.Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree or commensurate work experience
- 5+ years experience in leading software engineering teams
- 10+ years of building high-traffic, production-scale software
applications
- Strong expertise in full digital video stack video players,
encoding (HLS, CMAF), packaging, CDN delivery, DRM solutions, and
AWS cloud services (MediaLive, MediaConvert, MediaPackage)
- Strong knowledge of ad insertion (DAI/SSAI/CSAI), SCTE-35
protocol, DVR playback
- Experience working with video on multiple platforms web
browsers, mobile apps, and connected devices (Apple TV, Android TV,
Fire TV, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, smart TVs, etc.)
- Takes full ownership of complex projects spanning across
products, teams, and disciplines
- Strategic thinker on best paths forward, while rolling up
sleeves to get things done
- Manages time effectively in a fast-paced environment with
little management oversight
- Ability to work in a dynamicenvironment which can pivot rapidly
per changing needs
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies for iterative development
- Clear and effective communicator with technical and
