Job Description:
Job Summary - This position interacts with functional
representatives, business analysts, database analysts and
application development project teams to apply data operations
requirements to support the effective storage,
manipulation/processing and retrieval of data. This role develops
and leads application development project activities and
integrations. The incumbent provides leadership in full systems
life cycle management (e.g., analyses, technical requirements,
architecture and system design, coding, testing, implementation of
systems and applications software, etc.) on highly complex projects
to ensure delivery is on time and within budget. This position
analyzes, comprehends, and applies the appropriate level of
details, based on the stage of the project life cycle, to ensure
mapped solutions satisfy business problems and opportunities. The
incumbent breaks down complex concepts into comprehensible concepts
to ensure appropriate level of communication/understanding for the
project stakeholders. This role participates in defining and
developing technical specifications to meet systems' requirements.
This position utilizes the agile-waterfall methodology development
process. The incumbent provides the definition of logical and
physical data elements to promote data sharing, reuse of data
objects, and a coherent data source strategy. This role
demonstrates a significant understanding/analysis of applications
transformation of data into business information and the manner
that information supports and enables key business processes. This
position drives consistency and maintains departmental and
information security standards/procedures for database
environments. The role monitors/analyzes performance metrics and
allocates database resources to achieve optimum database
performance. The incumbent guides teams to ensure effective
communication and achievement of objectives This role supervises
others within the department. Responsibilities
- Analyzes and translates logical designs to create physical
designs
- Assesses detailed designs and documentation to ensure alignment
with business requirements
- Defines interfaces among systems components to ensure
interoperability
- Reviews and understands specifications to achieve coding
tasks
- Performs applications maintenance and support functions to
support problem resolution
- Reviews, analyzes, and refines requirements and specifications
to ensure quality
- Applies best practices for application development, performance
tuning, query optimization and modular coding techniques to improve
efficiencies in production and user experience
- Develops subject matter expertise of application development
concepts and design principles to promote optimal application
operations/support
- Conducts systems/requirements analyses to identify project
action items
- Performs assigned functions and tasks to meet project plan and
quality review requirements
- Develops and maintains PL/SQL Packages, Stored Procedures,
Functions, Triggers, SQL statements in Oracle Preferences
- Demonstrates an understanding of theories supporting disaster
recovery planning and continuance plan for own
application/function; executes existing disaster recovery plans in
case of outage; escalates issues if critical applications are at
risk
- Possesses knowledge of database design principles; works with
users to define requirements with minimal oversight from others;
defines user rights; describes security measures, such as
passwords, firewalls, and access rights based on user requirements;
describes information organization, such as classes, links,
records, and fields
- Identifies key information sources, assesses information
quality, and understands/communicates limitations; relates and
compares information from different sources; manages large amounts
of data and applies data reduction and exploratory analysis
techniques; makes logical assumptions; challenges own findings and
documents process/outcomes; audits own analyses and determines
their validity
- Demonstrates an understanding of the strategy, structures,
processes and procedures of the enterprise in its relationship with
the business and its activities; identifies business
representatives affected by information systems with some
assistance
- Understands UPS products, services, and internal systems; asks
appropriate questions to gain clear understanding of system issues;
documents and clearly communicates system issues to groups (e.g.
Information Services, User Reps, TSG, system users, etc.)
- Analyzes business processes; identifies alternative solutions,
assesses feasibility, and recommends new approaches, typically
seeking to exploit technology components; evaluates the financial,
cultural, technological, organizational, and environmental factors
which must be addressed in the change program
- Performs duties associated with the full software life-cycle,
both interface and database systems; gathers input from multiple
sources with some guidance; performs analyses, designs, codes,
tests, and documents moderate to highly complex applications
software
- Supports new technologies and maintains basic understanding of
potential risks/rewards with emerging technologies; assists with
application of new technologies for solving business information
needs
- Assists with the implementation of agreed upon problem remedies
and preventative measures
- Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in
Computer Science or related field
- Proficient in DML and DDL operations -
- Experience with database tools and utilities
- Experience with Agile modeling
- Experience of any BI tools (Oracle BI/Power BI) -
