The Sr. Software Engineer will primarily be to create custom integration applications, maintain, investigate, troubleshoot and provide escalated support across the MedCerts and K12/Stride production technology platform. A secondary function of this position is to manage projects as directed by senior management. While an applications programming background is not a primary responsibility for this position, the ideal candidate will have evidence of successfully leading programmers or technical teams. Excellent communication skills and be able to distill complex information into lay terms when interacting with non-technical staff is necessary.

This position will report to the Sr. Technology Director and the day-to-day job responsibilities will be split 75% between development/support and 25% in project management. This position will additionally help develop technical proposals, design and development estimates, optimize and enhance the company's current systems and platforms, and will execute projects as defined by leadership. The company has built a traditional Learning Management System (LMS) and a Content and Learning Managements System (CLMS) to support learners across multiple industries, through several unique business channels. Candidates must be able to demonstrate operations experience supporting 3rd party applications and plugins and will work closely with contractors and vendors to investigate issues and identify any needed upgrade pathways. Special emphasis will be placed on supporting integration projects with K12 where it will be necessary to plan and designate project resources, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed within the confines of goals and vision for each project.

This role requires technical knowledge of multiple subject areas including Data Management, Database design, Content Migration, Content Management Systems, and AWS Cloud Platform Services. The software engineer will need to be able to work across a complex technology stack to support an infrastructure strategy that is secure, scalable, high performance, and aligned with the goal of continuous integration and improvement. Project planning and execution for special integration projects with K12/Stride will also be the responsibility of this position.

General Duties And Responsibilities

  • Integral role within the company, implementing, standardizing, optimizing and expanding use of platforms and systems, with particular focus on K12/Stride projects.
  • Support K12 enrollments, requests and K12/Stride integration projects as project manager
  • Gather/Analyze requirements, design integrated business solutions, generate design documents, perform impact analysis for application changes, test changes in staging environments, and oversee solution delivery to production
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve business operations, administrative functions and end-user experiences in the LMS/CLMS
  • Technical liaison between business clients, partners, vendors, and contractors
  • Manage and assist support teams with escalated issue resolution
  • Assist in gathering detailed system requirements and project scoping
  • Serve as a training resource to personnel who perform daily/regular functions within the LMS/CMS. Ensure best practices are presented and maintained.
  • Provide training and escalation support to company personnel and clients/partners
  • Monitor site analytics for the core LMS and suggest improvements to improve reliability and performance
  • Work with vendors to create project requirements and negotiate technical details for application updates, integrations, and other technical work
  • Prioritize issues and technical solutions in accordance to business needs, work with vendors to create solutions to meet business goals
  • Create test protocols, lead testing efforts, and verify changes before release to production
  • Lead meetings to update management and related staff about ongoing projects and resolution of issues

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science/Engineering or related STEM degree program, or related equivalent additional experience.
    • 2-5 years of experience developing an application and pushing it to production
    • Full stack development experience (front-end, back-end, database, APIs)
    • Demonstrated experience supporting integrated solutions for enterprise sites
    • Demonstrated experience in project management and using tools to monitor and track project progress
    • Knowledge of database architecture (SQL/NoSQL)
    • Ability to prioritize, assign and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast paced, and changing environment
    • Strong Analytical skills & problem-solving ability
    • Customer focus and strong customer service skills

      Preferred Qualifications
      • Understanding of eLearning standards including SCORM, AICC, and xAPI
      • Experience with Salesforce integration
      • Experience with DevOps, reliability engineering, Amazon AWS (Expertise, Configuration, Management, Architecture)
      • Experienced with PHP and hosted web services
