SUMMARY: The Payroll Specialist processes payroll in accordance with approved payroll policies, procedures and best practices. Stays abreast of federal, state, and local payroll laws, rules, and regulations. Works under general supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: -- Prepares and processes weekly payroll and completes final balancing of assigned pay groups in multistate and multibrand environment. o Ensures accurate set-up of newly hired employees, as well as ongoing maintenance of existing employees in HR systems, including set-up for timekeeping. o Verifies accuracy of approved timesheets. o Accurately processes and documents employee changes. o Systematically loads commission, stipend and bonus payments with a focus on timeliness and accuracy. o Processes stop payment and off-cycle paycheck corrections as needed and ensures bank processing via positive pay notification. o Calculates and processes manual check corrections for items such as overpayments and tax adjustments. o Processes garnishments and levies in accordance with federal and state requirements. -- Creates a variety of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reports as needed. -- Analyzes current payroll policies and procedures and proactively recommends enhancements to management. -- Stays abreast of leading trends, best practices, laws, rules and regulations related to payroll. -- Administers completion of verification of employment (VOE) requests. -- Responds to inquiries, counsels and resolves colleague payroll and time issues. Provides excellent customer service to all customers, including colleagues, consultants and associates. -- Performs quality assurance and other audits to ensure data integrity. -- Performs system testing to ensure the accuracy of automated actions and calculations. -- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Associate degree in Business, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of two (2) years high volume, multi-state, US payroll experience required. Payroll experience within staffing industry strongly preferred. Professional payroll certification(s) preferred.
