Job Category: Allied Health Work Shift/Schedule: 8 Hr Morning -

of improving the health of our communities. About the Role: Job
Summary Responsible for assisting the sports medicine physician in
the care of patients being treated by this specialty. Job
responsibilities encompass triage of patients, assisting with
fracture care, fitting of durable medical equipment and any
additional duties deemed necessary for an overall efficient
operation. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other
certifications: Certification by the National Board of
Certification for Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) or The American
Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) required. American Heart
Association CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification
required. Current BLS certification required or must be obtained
within 30 days of hire. Educational Requirements: High School
Diploma or GED Minimum Experience: Other: Preferred Job
Qualifications Preferred Licensure or other certifications:
Preferred Educational Requirements: Preferred Experience: One (1) -
two (2) years experience, preferably prior orthopedic experience.

Tasks and Responsibilities Performs the initial assessment upon
patient’s arrival (obtains history for HPI and ROS). Communicates
assessment findings to health care provider per documentation or
verbalization. Establishes immediate plans for patients following
collaboration with physician. Recognizes need for and monitors
vital signs on potentially unstable patients. Documents any
treatment interventions and implements physicians orders in a
timely manner. Anticipates treatment plan for patient by reviewing
prior office notes and orders to maintain a smooth and continuous
patient flow process. Anticipates physician needs for procedures
and assist as indicated in casting, splinting, cast removal,
injections, brace fitting, x-ray ordering, etc. Performs ongoing
assessment as demonstrated by documentation. Reports change in
patient condition and/or inappropriate patient response to
physician immediately. Organizes patient care and demonstrates
ability to set priorities. Assists physicians with patient care;
properly fits and applies pre-operative braces, crutches, and other
soft goods; assists in preparation for and application of casts and
orthopedic appliances; changes dressings; removes sutures, casts,
and splints. Assists physicians and nurses with orthopedic
procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical
procedures, fracture reductions, etc.; instructs patients in cast
and traction care and the use of orthopedic appliances. Serves as a
liaison between physician and patient. Plans for patient safety at
all times. Assist with patient education as needed with cast care,
rehabilitation, instructions on use and care of braces, etc.
Identifies and implements infection control process. Organizes
patient referrals and documents referral plan. Obtains prior
authorizations as indicated. Processes workers compensation cases
following the company requirements and serves as liaison between
physician and company. Answers telephone in a courteous manner,
identifying center and self at all times. Maintains complete and
accurate messages and assures timely routing. Accounts for and
documents supply utilization. Assists Radiology Tech with
positioning of patients and providing immobilization devices as
needed. Orders medical supplies as indicated. Maintains clean and
well-stocked soft goods room; orders special supplies and/or
equipment. Complies with mandatory health system continuing
education programs annually. Participates in own professional
growth as demonstrated by continuing education in the orthopedic
field. Remains current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies;
performs other duties as assigned. Maintains monthly tracking logs
for patient encounters, clinical procedures, and referrals in and
out of office. Schedules patient appointments in a timely and
efficient manner. Collect vital signs on all new patients. All
other duties as assigned. Physical Demands Weight Lifted: Up to 50
