Facility Information Facility: GSS SD Rapid City St Martin Location: Rapid City, SD Address: 4825 Jericho Way, Rapid City, SD 57702, USA Shift: 12 Hours - Evening Shifts Job Schedule: Full-time Weekly Hours: 36.00 Salary Range: $18.50 - $28.00 Job Overview The Medication Assistant (MA) acts as a caregiver, delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support to designated residents under the guidance of a charge nurse. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to provide age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents according to their care plans. Key responsibilities include: Assisting with essential health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and undressing. Obtaining and documenting vital signs while offering psycho-social support and personal care. Helping residents with mobility, including transferring, repositioning, and walking, using appropriate techniques and equipment. Facilitating food preparation and dining experiences, ensuring a positive atmosphere for residents during meals. Administering prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations. Documenting outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, and dietary needs. Communicating any changes in residents' conditions or care needs to the charge nurse. Collecting non-invasive body fluid samples and vital signs. Providing housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living environments. Supporting wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation. Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), though not mandatory. A minimum age of 18 is preferred, along with prior clinical or nursing assistant experience. Completion of annual department-specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits, with at least 12 hours required each year based on state mandates. Possession of all necessary department-specific certifications. In some cases, a valid driver's license and auto insurance may be required. State-specific requirements include: Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of Nursing is required, along with successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course after obtaining CNA certification. Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification is necessary, having completed the 75-hour course and registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry, along with successful completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course. North Dakota: CNA certification from the State Board of Nursing is required, along with successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course. Medication Assistant I certification is needed for Assisted Living or Basic Care facilities, while Medication Assistant II certification is required for skilled nursing facilities. South Dakota: Successful completion of the state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course is necessary, with CMA certification maintained through the State Board of Nursing. For all locations, it is essential to have the state-required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA), which assumes prior attainment of CNA certification.
