Must-Have: - Certification in Nuclear Medicine - Camera knowledge
of Philips ADAC Forte - Epic and PACS knowledge Description: The
Nuclear Medicine Technologist assists in providing safe,
age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according
to departmental procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and
ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies safely. He/she is
responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures that
require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in
utilizing equipment for diagnosing and/or treating diseases. The
technologist can independently perform job functions. He/she sets
up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for
procedures. Core Responsibilities: Patient Care Verifies proper
clinician orders for procedures. Obtains complete clinical
histories and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows
established procedures for administering radiopharmaceuticals to
prevent patient discomfort due to error or poor technique. Ensures
all studies have proper patient identification and that right and
left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews images for
clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to
emergency situations and ensures crash carts are restocked and life
support equipment is maintained. Assists other technologists in all
modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions andevaluates
situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies
patient identity using two unique identifiers per hospital policy.
Ensures patients' privacy and comfort are maintained throughout
exams or procedures. Demonstrates competence in the application of
appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based
on the age of patients. Organizes schedules, time, and priorities
to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and
exams. Uses critical thinking skills and engages in dialogue with
patients and families. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders and
understands pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes.
Demonstrates understanding of pre- and post-procedural care.
Prepares patients for procedures and maintains competency with
venipuncture. Equipment Demonstrates the ability to adjust
techniques for optimal study results while maintaining image
quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisors or service
providers for timely resolution. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains
equipment according to infection control policies. Education and
Communications Explains purpose and nature of exams to patients to
minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patients'
questions, concerns, or contraindications, notifying physicians
when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of
departmental employees. Documents concisely and legibly, using
precise terminology. Completes mandatory educational requirements
without prompting. Quality Control Produces acceptable images as
evidenced by feedback and audits. Ensures equipment is operational
before use and checks for proper calibration. Sends studies to PACS
immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed. Operations
Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining departmental cleanliness.
Transports patients and assists them on and off procedure tables.
Performs patient charging activities on the same day services are
rendered. Utilizes supportive and immobilization devices as
necessary. Contributes knowledge and assistance willingly when time
allows. Performs clerical and support duties to ensure continuity
of service when needed. Maintains communication with supervisors
regarding ongoing responsibilities and potential issues. Maintains
a productivity rate comparable to co-workers. Operates nuclear
medicine equipment within the department. Maintains compliance with
Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards. Performs other
duties as assigned. Takes call when necessary. The Nuclear Medicine
Technologist plays a crucial role in providing diagnostic imaging
and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process.
