Job Description Laurel Heights Hospital is an intensive psychiatric residential treatment facility for children and adolescents. We are seeking: MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATE (2nd Shift: 2:45 pm-11:15 pm & Every Other Weekend). With experience in working in a hospital/psychiatric setting, prefer experience with children and adolescents Autism or other neurodevelopmental disabilities, including those who are moderately to severely affected by Autism. Candidate should have a basic knowledge of child growth and development, mental health and developmental disorders. Qualifications include but are not limited to: ability to engage patients in learning new skills ability to work with challenging patients in a calm respectful manner ability to assist patients in completing self-care tasks and teach self-care within the patients functional capabilities ability to work within a team framework to ensure excellent patient care ability to model appropriate social skills; ability to set firm yet caring/nurturing limits ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently. Key expectations include: Maintaining patient confidentiality, respectfulness and courteousness toward patients and families Visitors and co-workers and maintaining professional boundaries. Candidates also need to be open to training and supervision toward competence in application of basic principles and techniques of applied behavior analysis, implementation of detailed behavior plans, management of patients with autism and psychiatric illnesses, and preventing and managing aggressive behavior. EOE. Candidates must be able to Work 2nd Shift: 2:45 pm-11:15 pm & Every Other Weekend?. Candidates should have Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of working experience or High Diploma with 3 to 5 year working experience in a similar setting working with behaviorally disordered children and adolescents, preferably those with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or related development disabilities preferably within an inpatient setting. Acceptable oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting ability to maintain information as highly confidential telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology preferred skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients empathy toward children and adolescents; basic knowledge of child growth and development preferred experience working with abused children/adolescents helpful; skills in limit-setting necessary able to respond to children/adolescents in a firm yet nurturing caring manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary; willingness to seek supervision in this regard necessary. Employee must have a valid Georgia Drivers License. In the absence of these qualifications upon hire, must demonstrate ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within reasonable time frame via the organizations orientation and training program.
