We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.DescriptionThe Department of Dermatology is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished MD/PhD or PhD scientist with experience in translational science, human subjects research, and team leadership to serve as Associate Director of Research Projects. This position is integral to advancing the department's research mission by facilitating collaborative research initiatives, supporting multi-investigator grant submissions, enhancing the department's extramural funding portfolio and supporting research experiences for trainees, including medical students at Emory. The role involves a unique combination of leadership in research operations, mentorship of medical students, and strategic grant development to drive impactful research outcomes. As a key member of the department's research team, the Director will work closely with faculty, students, and external collaborators to coordinate and implement innovative research projects. The individual will leverage their advanced scientific knowledge and organizational skills to support grant writing, streamline protocol development, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations. Additionally, the Director will play a pivotal role in mentoring medical students interested in dermatology residency and advancing their engagement in mentored research experiences.This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge dermatology research while fostering an environment of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Further, if the Associate Director shows success, there is potential to be promoted to Director of Research Programs.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of research projects, ensuring compliance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate medical student engagement in departmental research by identifying and matching students with appropriate mentored projects.
  • Lead the submission of a T32 training grant within the first year of appointment.
  • Accelerate multi-investigator R-level grant submissions by connecting departmental researchers with collaborators within Emory University and beyond with a target of an R01 grant submission within the first 1-2 years.
  • Provide leadership in grant writing, protocol development, and project management to expand the department's extramural funding.
  • Collaborate with faculty on the design and implementation of clinical trials, including investigator-initiated and pharmaceutical industry sponsored trials.
  • Conduct literature reviews, summarize findings, and apply insights to ongoing and proposed research.
  • Develop and present research findings through publications, reports, and presentations at national meetings.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the department and external sponsors for programmatic matters.
  • Supervise research staff and provide direction to consultants and team members to ensure project success.
  • Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects.
  • Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects.
  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.
  • Coordinates various aspects of the study.
  • Routinely develops research protocols.
  • Reviews and edits text for studies.
  • Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research.
  • Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team.
  • Provides direction to consultants and team members.
  • Coordinates and conducts special meetings.
  • Develops and conducts presentations, represents Emory at national meetings, and co-authors publications.
  • Collaborates on or authors reports and papers.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
    • Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills.
    • Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives is preferred.
    • Experience conducting focus groups.NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
