The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a key member of Fortna's Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the full scope of software product planning and marketing as well as the execution throughout the product lifecycle. This includes: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with product R&D, software development, engineering, sales, marketing, Fortna Client Support and Clients to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The CTO's job also includes ensuring that the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals for leading the full scope of software delivery for the business. This role also leads the Software Engineering team, and is responsible for all technical mentoring, and day to day delegation of tasks to the team. This role also will be responsible for managing the budget P&L.
The CTO is responsible for ensuring that the current software products, modules and capabilities (current state) are positioned to support our Clients' needs and lead definition of future product planning and product marketing, with respect to the market as well as inside Fortna. Additionally, the CTO is responsible for identifying new products (i.e., robotics), connecting Client needs with available and proven technologies, building business cases, scoping high level functionalities and establishing price points. Furthermore, the team building between Clients and Fortna departments is critical for the success of our Clients, Fortna's profitability and sustainability.
Overall Areas of Responsibility:

  • Software R&D
  • Understanding the current Fortna WES platform, capabilities and modules (current state)
  • Managing the entire product life-cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
  • Specifying market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to Clients and non-Clients
  • Driving a solution set across development teams (primarily Software Development and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product contract, and positioning
  • Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute
  • Analyzing potential partner relationships for software products, as appropriate
  • Monitoring technological, social and scientific trends that could influence the company's business goals
  • Identifying opportunities and risks for the business related to our technology product offerings
  • Responsible for full scope of software delivery for the business.
  • Software Engineering team - driving successful and continuing improvement of software solutions delivery.


    • Identifying new products

    • Determining requirements, conducting feasibility and risk assessment and associated business cases
    • Prompting new products within Fortna
    • Scoping high level functionality
    • Defining product pallet with strategy and roadmap
    • Establishing price points

      Marketing & Sales:

      • Translating Fortna's software capabilities, differentiators, and roadmap into business messaging that supports Client and Fortna Associate education, training and sales efforts (written forms - brochures, sales documents, web-site, etc.)
      • Marketing and asserting Fortna as a product-based firm to provide solutions and infrastructure
      • Monitoring competitors - full understanding of competitive landscape and differentiators - be Fortna's expert with respect to the competition
      • Leading marketing, branding and promoting of Fortna's software products
      • Supporting development and delivery of Product Demonstrations
      • Managing efforts related to the Software User Group
      • Educating Clients as well as Fortna Associates in sales efforts, meetings, user groups, and webinars
      • Demonstrating leadership and high comfort level in the software and controls for warehouse logistics
      • Working closely with marketing, sales, and Client Support to define future software direction and provide support for each function's activities
      • Supporting pricing sheet's, licensing schema and revenue forecasts


        • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field plus 10+ years general experience within Product Management, WCS, WES, MHS/Supply Chain Industry and 3+ years of specific accountability within WCS software, product marketing, and product management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
        • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent software products
        • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive presence
        • Must be highly knowledgeable and well-rounded in technology, operations, supply chain, systems, and MHE
        • Excellent facilitation and teamwork skills
        • Excellent team working skills and experience (leader, influencer and supporter)
        • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
