We are looking for a motivated packaging engineer to help take our offerings to the next level as well as enter new channels in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. This position will work with the product development and R&D teams to design, prototype, and test various packaging solutions with a focus on shelf life stability. The ideal candidate is a self-starter that is eager to solve new challenges that will take on projects with a high level of autonomy.This role will be located at our site in Stone Mountain, GA (greater Atlanta metro area). This position will report to the director of engineering and commercialization with normal working hours of 9a-5p.Essential Responsibilities:

• Work with product development and R&D teams to design new food and CPG packaging solutions with a focus on barriers and coatings
• Assist in prototyping packaging products including 3D printing, molded fiber, thermoforming, and injection molding.
• Perform application research to determine packaging requirements for mechanical and barrier properties including procuring, testing, and cataloging barrier films and lidding materials
• Test packaging prototypes and materials for thermal properties including ISTA cold chain testing and mechanical testing using a mechanical testing apparatus.
• Test packaging prototypes and materials for mechanical strength ISTA drop testing and mechanical testing for stress/strain/compression properties.
• Test packaging prototypes and materials for gas barrier properties including OTR and WVTR testing.
• Generate and maintain a World Centric materials and solutions library
• Help transfer materials from prototypes to production through knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes.
• Assist product development team in managing incoming supplier and custom design by performing testing, providing feedback, and cataloging samples.
• Assist with customer PD projects to put together whole full packaging solutions including, but not limited to containers, lidding, sleeves, flexible packaging, and labels.Requirements: Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • BS in packaging engineering, or related technical field
  • Minimum 3-5+ years related experience in design, prototyping, and manufacturing of food service, CPG, or FMPG packaging
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (Solidworks preferred)
  • Previous experience with ISTA testing
  • Basic knowledge of material properties including foams, bagasse fibers, plastics, or other barriers
  • Basic knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes including thermoforming, injection molding, and compression molding
  • Proficient communication skills including ability to present concepts for reviewPreferred:
    • Previous experience with advanced prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, welding)
    • Proficient with SOLIDWORKS
    • Knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes (i.e. injection molding, extrusion, vacuum forming)
    • Previous experience working with compostable materialsPhysical LogisticsOn-site full time role with flexibility to work remote when it makes sense.
