The Special Education Lead Teacher (LIFE) role assumes indirect responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of appropriate curriculum, IEP compliance, and specialized instructional strategies. The Lead Teacher monitors special education teachers

and acts as model teacher and coach to help support quality classroom instruction. The Lead Teacher is a state certified teacher who assists with oversight of special education compliance, data collection, and program implementation. Additionally, the Lead

Teacher supports the activities of the school leadership team; managing and/or mentoring teachers and supporting school-based academic initiatives.

  • Provides direction, leadership, and accountability in the curriculum development and implementation of instructional and related services for students with disabilities

  • Models and provides training to Lead Teachers of Special Education, teachers, and general education staff in effective instructional strategies and differentiation

  • Trains, monitors, and evaluates teacher effectiveness (TKES); to include bi-weekly classroom observations

  • Plans and delivers professional learning activities on a variety of topics related to services for students with disabilities

  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to ensure accurate student scheduling, timeline compliance, and FTE data reporting

  • Develops and facilitates bi-weekly special education team meetings (school-based); with appropriate redelivery of district/state training materials and/or updates

  • Participates in school-based leadership calls, admin meetings, data meetings, and district Special Education meetings/trainings

  • Assists with student scheduling to include: transcript/credit audit in collaboration with Counseling department, course scheduling, alignment of Special Education Services with course coding, and ILP/IGP completion

  • Monitors provision of Hospital Homebound services
  • Collaborates with district Test Coordinator to ensure accuracy of state/district testing accommodations

  • Serves as Local Education Agency Representative in Special Education meetings

  • Monitors, maintains, and reports IEP/Eligibility compliance for school
  • Monitors implementation of school-wide engagement plan and provisions of due-process to include scheduling of MDR's, and/or noted evaluations, IEP amendments, etc.

  • Documents provision of IEP services via collaboration with Related Services team and/or service providers/contractors

  • Serves as school-based point of contact for all high-profile cases, due process, and special education complaint proceedings

  • Oversees monthly special education data-collection and data review process in relation to academic targets

  • Tracks and monitors entering and completion of all received consents for evaluation and initial eligibility referrals

  • Facilitates personnel matters to include progressive discipline, hiring, and termination

  • Performs other duties as assigned by school or district administrationSupervisory Responsibilities:Directly supervises 3+ special education lead teachers and 20+ special education teachers; with indirect oversight of 300+ special education students. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's

    policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

      Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for

      three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's

      learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.


      Minimum Qualifications

      • Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field, AND
      • 2 or more years' experience in special education leadership OR
      • Equivalent combination of education and experience

        Certificates and Licenses: Must hold or be eligible to hold a Georgia PSC approved certification in Special education.Other Required Qualifications

        • Ability to travel 30% of the time
        • Ability to pass required background check(s)
        • Attend all required school outings and staff meetings (Leadership, DDI, Staff, Department, PLC, etc.)

        • Attend all required Professional Development sessions, trainings, and conferences

        • Participate in Milestones assessment training and administration
        • Knowledge of the Georgia Performance Standards and GADOE Implementation Manual

        • Ability to read and interpret student academic data and psycho-educational reports

        • Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation

          • Educational Leadership Certificate
          • Previous experience as an online educator and/or web-based tools proficiency
