(Photography and Video Emphasis) Position Summary Wesleyan College
seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Art with a three year
renewable contract specializing in photography, video and/or
digital media beginning August 1, 2026 . The successful candidate
will teach across photography and video courses while contributing
to the foundations curriculum and collaborating with
interdisciplinary programs such as Advertising Marketing and
Communication , Arts Management , and the Culture, Literature, and
Media program . We seek a dynamic educator who brings creative and
technical expertise in contemporary photographic and video
practices and who is equally enthusiastic about helping students
build strong visual foundations. The ideal candidate values
collaboration, interdisciplinary approaches, and inclusive teaching
in a small liberal arts environment. The chosen candidate will have
the opportunity to shape a growing digital media program to best
meet the needs of our students and interests of the professional
field. Responsibilities Teach a 21 credit hour course load
including photography, video, and foundation-level studio courses
(e.g., Two-Dimensional Design). Mentor students in Studio Art and
related interdisciplinary majors. Engage students in critical
thinking, visual literacy, and technical skill development in both
digital and traditional processes. Contribute to curriculum
development that integrates creative and applied approaches to
lens-based media. Participate in departmental activities,
exhibitions, and committee work (beginning in the second year).
Maintain an active creative practice or professional record in
photography, video, or related media. Minimum Qualifications: A
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in photography, video, or design.
High quality portfolio of professional work and technical ability.
Experience using DSLR or mirrorless cameras and managing digital
workflows Knowledge of historical and contemporary practice in
photography and video and digital techniques and software
applications for shooting, editing, and producing media work.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability
to collaborate with a small department and across campus. Preferred
Qualifications: Experience teaching diverse populations in a
liberal arts setting. Two years college teaching experience in
photography and video. Preferred technical skills include: studio
lighting; digital printing; digital video production; and motion
graphics. Ability to teach in a second area such as graphic design,
UX design, motion graphics, drawing, simple animation, or arts
management. Facilities Wesleyan’s Art Department includes a 15-seat
Mac lab equipped with Adobe Creative Suite, scanners, and large
format printers, and a photography/video studio with DSLR cameras
and video equipment. Institutional and Application Information
