Lead Knowledge Analyst - Intellectual Property and Networks -
(The Boston Consulting Group. Inc. - Atlanta, Georgia): Gather, analyze and
synthesize information for the Strategy Practice Area, focusing on
Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy and Networks in order to manage and
process patent research requests, assist consultants with topic-specific
problems, and provide IP, patent and licensing analysis to drive insight into
specific client issues. Specific duties include: partner with case teams
to identify and address critical knowledge needs; provide customized
knowledge for client work, prepare accurate, well developed documents and
charts; execute and coordinate complex research and analysis requests across
regions, with a focus on IP and networks (e.g., benchmarking, usage of
practice proprietary tools, conducting IP or networks related research
and analysis on relevant industries or companies); deliver original analysis
and insights to case team; identify experts and connect him/her with
requestor; ensure that requests for expertise are addressed by Knowledge
Team and appropriate research is delivered; collect, synthesize, analyze
case team learning and inputs into new knowledge products (vignettes,
experience) with consultants; coordinate scope, workflow, activities, and
output; work with key stakeholders to kick-off proprietary data and tools
efforts; provide insights on process and methodology; build and update
new topic/sector-related customized knowledge products; control
Knowledge Management database's consistency; review knowledge products and
ensures they are current and relevant; write abstracts and indexes
projects and practice area documents; actively participate in efforts to
further develop BCG IP and networks tools and methodologies; collaborate on PA
intellectual capital development such as Tier 1s; and contribute to content
development around topic/sector for practice area meetings and trainings.
Requires a Master's degree in engineering, computer science, applied
mathematics, or a life sciences discipline (willing to accept foreign education
equivalent) plus six (6) years of experience performing strategic IP
analytics to inform business and technology decisions. Specific
skills/other requirements (quantitative experience requirements not
applicable to this section) - must possess the following: (i) knowledge of
network visualization and analysis tool Touchgraph Navigator; (ii)
knowledge of patent search databases including the ability to formulate
complex, multi- field queries for searching patents and retrieving data by
combining technology keywords, DWPI (Derwent World Patent Index) fields,
and IPC codes using Boolean logic; (iii) analyzing large amount of
patent data through semantic analysis for creating patent landscapes and
discovering white spaces; (iv) searching potential licensees, collaborators,
and licensing support services including portfolio mining, patent
rating, infringement searches, freedom to operate, patent file
histories, and EOU chart preparation; (v) advanced Excel and slide writing skills
involving charts, maps, and tables; (vi) performing patent analyses
including claims mapping, portfolio analysis, patent categorization, and patent
valuation; and (vii) ability to study the flow of smart money (venture
capital funding) to track innovation/growth and identify collaboration
or M&A opportunities using Quid's semantic analysis. Must have
unrestricted authorization to work in U.S. M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 45+
