Description 2026 Marketing & Communications – Summer Internship
Job Description Salary Range:: $17.50/hr Posting expires: 4/8/26
General Description and Classification Standards The City's
Department of City Planning is recruiting for summer interns.
Interns perform various and diverse administrative and/or project
duties depending on specific department and job assignment. This
title is typically assigned to someone attending college who is
interning to gain more experience and knowledge of a specific
function in municipal government. Responsibilities Essential Duties
& Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this
position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.
May perform other duties as assigned. Performs various and diverse
administrative and/or project duties depending on specific
department and job assignment. This title is typically assigned to
someone attending college who is interning to gain more experience
and knowledge of a specific function in municipal government.
Engages in on-the-job training on operational policies and work
procedures to attain the necessary talents which allow the
incumbent to contribute to the work being produced by the
organizational unit to which assigned. Including collecting
information/data, compiling and preparing reports, preparing
presentations for staff members, attending project team meetings,
filing, answering phone and other clerical duties in addition to
administrative/project assignments. Marketing and Communications: ·
Assist with the development and execution of communications
strategies and creative processes for DCP projects and initiatives.
Assist with the creation of content and coordinating social media
posts via Facebook, Twitter, etc. · Assisting with the development
of the monthly e-newsletter content · Tracking and analysis of
social media campaigns. · Assist with in-house production and
administrative tasks as needed Participate in departmental and team
meetings and a variety of special projects, as assigned. Decision
Making Follow standardized procedures and written instructions to
accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided None Knowledge,
Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary
knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job
successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Some knowledge of
specific professional functions in which they are assigned, e.g.
IT, Human Resources, Accounting etc. Good Microsoft Office skills.
Good planning, organizational and presentation skills. Good verbal
and written skills. Ability to quickly assimilate new information
into a work process to achieve the desired objective outcome.
Ability to independently collect information needed and transpose
into finished product. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications –
Education and Experience Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree
in an appropriate discipline for the department in which person is
an intern (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for
substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
Preferred Education & Experience Pursuing an Associate’s,
Bachelor’s or Graduate’s degree in one of the Majors listed below:
Preferred Majors: Communications, Community Development, Community
Services, Graphic Design, Information Systems. Licensures and
Certifications None
